CARENA announces the acquisition of a 12,000-ton floating dock to strengthen its operational capacities

CARENA, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and SOFIA, specialized in ship repair in West Africa, announces the acquisition of a 12,000-ton floating dock, which will be delivered to its Abidjan shipyard in October 2025. This new equipment will enable CARENA to lift larger vessels out of the water.

This acquisition, representing an investment of 12.5 billion FCFA, marks a decisive milestone in CARENA’s development. The company will now operate a fleet of three floating docks: 2,000 tons, 10,000 tons, and the new 12,000-ton dock.

The new floating dock, measuring 144 meters in length and 48 meters in width, offers exceptional operational capacity and will significantly increase the shipyard’s hosting capacity.

«With this state-of-the-art equipment, CARENA is strengthening its ability to meet the technical requirements of shipowners across the African Atlantic coast. The possibility of handling several vessels simultaneously positions us as a player capable of delivering fast, reliable, and competitive solutions. This strategic investment also reflects our confidence in the potential of the Ivorian maritime sector and the positive growth of regional port traffic. It further represents an opportunity to enhance local expertise, develop internal know-how, and strengthen our company’s attractiveness, in order to sustainably support the growth of the Ivorian economy and the sub-region. » Jean-François Arhant , Managing Director of CARENA

Before entering service at the Abidjan shipyard, the dock is currently undergoing technical preparation. In collaboration with CARENA’s teams, several steps have been initiated: complete anti-corrosion treatment of the dock, branding of the CARENA logo on the structure, preparation and modernization of cranes, and inspection of all equipment. These operations ensure strict compliance with the company’s quality and safety standards and guarantee that the dock will be fully operational upon arrival.

Through this strategic acquisition, CARENA reaffirms its ability to provide world-class ship repair and maintenance services in support of the maritime development of the sub-region.
