Côte d’Ivoire Terminal strenghtens its operational capacities with the acquisition of 2 quay gantry cranes and 9 park gantry cranes
Côte d’Ivoire Terminal, operator of the 2nd container terminal of the port of Abidjan, took delivery on July 11, 2025, of two new fully electric quay gantry cranes (STS) and nine fleet gantry cranes (RTG). This acquisition brings the operator’s fleet to 8 quay gantries (compared to 6 previously) and 27 fleet gantries (compared to 18), thus strengthening its processing capacities.

This acquisition is part of a dynamic of strengthening operational capacities, in response to the continuous increase in volumes handled, driven not only by the reception of ships capable of transporting up to 24,000 containers, but also by the dynamism of the Ivorian and regional economies. It also aims to maintain high handling rates, both at the quay and in the container yard, while optimizing the fluidity of operations.

«Since its commissioning three years ago, Côte d'Ivoire Terminal has continued to play a leading role in port performance. In three years, the port of Abidjan has seen its container traffic double, from 850,000 to 1,600,000 TEUs. The arrival of this new equipment marks an important step in strengthening our capabilities, but also in our environmental commitment. They will allow us to better absorb future volumes, under optimal conditions, for the satisfaction of all our stakeholders. » Koen De Backker I Managing Director of Côte d'Ivoire Terminal.
« Port performance is a key lever to support the economic growth of Côte d'Ivoire and the sub-region. With this new equipment, the Port of Abidjan is resolutely positioning itself as a modern logistics platform, capable of responding to the increase in volumes in the best conditions. This is a strong signal to the entire maritime and port community on our ambition to become a leading logistics hub in West Africa. » Hien SIE I Director General of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan
In addition, Côte d’Ivoire Terminal plans to take delivery of 16 new tractors in the near future, intended to strengthen the transfer of containers between the park and the quays. An additional 850 refrigerated container sockets (reefers) will also be installed, in order to meet the growing needs of the agri-food sector and temperature-controlled logistics.
