Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Côte d'Ivoire carried out, from August 2 to 4, 2026, the transport of five locomotives for the construction of Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro. With a total weight of 332.28 metric tonnes, this rail equipment was moved from the Port of Abidjan to the reception site in Abobo Sagbé, in an operation carried out on behalf of COLAS RAIL.
Their transport and placement on the tracks mark a new operational milestone in mobilizing the resources needed to move this major urban mobility project in Côte d'Ivoire forward.
AGL Côte d'Ivoire handled the entire operational chain, from unloading the locomotives at the port by ship's hook to placing them on the tracks at the reception site. The operation included lifting, loading onto two hydraulic trailers, technical and safety checks, escorted transport, and final unloading.
This abnormal load transport operation required rigorous preparation. AGL's teams carried out a route survey, assessed the risks associated with transport and lifting operations, defined the securing procedures, and coordinated the operation with the port authorities, the security forces, and the project's technical teams.
To carry out this mission, AGL Côte d'Ivoire deployed two Nicolas hydraulic trailers, road tractors dedicated to heavy-haul transport, a 400-tonne capacity crane, and specialized lifting, securing, escort, and supervision equipment.
Every step was carried out in line with AGL's HSE standards, including prior equipment checks, cordoning off of work zones, and continuous supervision of all maneuvers.
By transporting these locomotives and placing them on the tracks, AGL Côte d'Ivoire is making a tangible contribution to mobilizing the rail resources the project needs to progress. This achievement illustrates the strategic role of large-scale infrastructure logistics in Côte d'Ivoire's economic development.
