On 26 May 2023, Côte d’Ivoire Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics) and concession holder for the second container Terminal of the port of Abidjan, obtained 3 stars for the Green Terminal label, which is the best rating for this environmental certification. This label granted by Bureau Veritas certifies the low environmental impact of the company’s activities. Côte d’Ivoire Terminal has thus become the tenth port concession in the AGL Group to receive this label, and the first to receive a score above 90%.

 

The Bureau Veritas experts assessed the company through an audit conducted based on the eight pillars of the “Green Terminal” certification process, developed by AGL. This includes assessing the operational processes, the compliance of built infrastructures with international standards, waste management, employee training, and the good management of environmental issues.

 

Designed based on the highest standards, the terminal is built to meet the strictest environmental norms. Therefore, Côte d’Ivoire Terminal is equipped with 100% electric equipment, including 36 tractor units, 13 yard gantry cranes and 6 dock gantry cranes.

The company has also undertaken to digitise its procedures, so as to increase its productivity. These innovations concern the automated management of gatehouses, an online appointment system for container deliveries and removals, as well as online payment for its services.

The port of Abidjan is pleased that Côte d’Ivoire Terminal received the Green Terminal certification. This label, which was awarded one year after that of the first container terminal of the port of Abidjan, confirms the port platform’s commitment for sustainable development. About the Green Terminal Label

The “Green Terminal” label was launched in June 2021 by AGL, in partnership with Bureau Veritas, and aims to help reduce the carbon footprint of its activities through a methodology covering all the environmental concerns. Since its launch, several port concessions received this label, such as Meridian Port Services (MPS), Bénin Terminal, Abidjan Terminal, Dakar Terminal, Kribi Conteneurs Terminal (KCT), Conakry Terminal, Owendo Container Terminal (OCT), the Ro-Ro Terminal of Abidjan (TERRA) and Freetown Terminal.

 

About Côte d’Ivoire Terminal

After an international call for tenders, the AGL and APM Terminals consortium was awarded the construction and management of the 2nd container terminal of the Port of Abidjan. Through an investment of over FCFA 262 bn, this new container terminal is able to handle over 1.5 million TEU containers per year and accommodate vessels with up to 16 metre draughts, along its 1,100 metres of docks. Covering a surface area of 37.5 hectares, it is set to ultimately generate over 450 direct jobs, along with thousands of indirect jobs.
